Water:
Because of the large amount of chemicals used to purify water in Egypt, it is recommended that foreigners drink bottled mineral water. Several brands, local and imported (usually carbonized) are available.
Electricity:
The voltage in Egypt is normally 220 volts AC. Wall plugs are of the European 2-pin type. North American appliances will need adapter plugs and transformers.
Communications
The rate for a 3-minute local telephone call is 25 Piasters. Rates for overseas calls vary, and may be dialed through hotels or telephone offices. Letters may be mailed through hotels or post offices. Visitors may send Telexes or Faxes through hotels or from telegraph offices throughout the country.
What to wear
Generally, light cottons, a hat and comfortable walking shoes are all you need to feel comfortable in Egypt. The weather is warm and sunny. In winter, a light woolen jacket or coat for evenings outside the hotel is recommended. Click here for more information about Egypt's climate
